What were your careers before becoming Tunies?
We owned the Sears Hometown Store in Bozeman for 15 years. This summer we transitioned to operating Kitchen Tune-Up as our sole business.

What is your favorite part of owning your own business?
We love solving problems for our clients. We get great satisfaction from seeing a project through the process to the final, wonderful, end result. We get to spend time with our clients and really learn their needs and work together on solutions. It’s very satisfying work!

What comes to mind as your most memorable kitchen update?
Our first Tune-Up was on very old cabinets in very bad shape. We weren’t sure we should have tackled the project, but we wanted to help and the customer was so enthusiastic about our service. Our team worked all day, mostly repairing damage and trying to add color and life back to the cabinets. We weren’t sure how successful we were until the final few steps of our process. The cabinets transformed beautifully! The customer was so happy that she cried and said how happy her late mother would have been to see her kitchen restored after many years of serving a family. The cabinets were special to them because they were custom built by a close friend in a very unique style. We were able to save this kitchen and create a memorable experience for our customer, enriching her life. Of course, this whole experience enriched our lives as well.

Any advice for someone thinking about making the leap and buying their own franchise?
Do an in-depth self-assessment and make sure you are self-motivated. Have enough cash to fund your business and invest in marketing.

When you’re not working, what is your favorite hobby or pastime?
Todd loves to farm. Both of us love to hike, fish, and explore our beautiful outdoors.

What’s something unique about your area? 
Bozeman is a neat town! We have a great university where both of us met and graduated. The outdoor opportunities are boundless here. There are hiking trails through the town called “Main Street to the Mountains” so it’s easy to quickly get on a hike to the hills on a beautiful day.

We switch up our National Reunion location each year.  What has been your favorite city to visit or most memorable Reunion so far?
Denver was tops!  The 30th-anniversary celebration and entire event was great, and we learned a lot to bring back to our clients.

Do you have a favorite cabinet door style?
White shaker!

What was the biggest motivator to why you purchased a Kitchen Tune-Up franchise?
We love the unique solutions for almost any homeowner. We can really save our clients a lot of money and help them transform their kitchen into a very affordable and green way.

What have you found to be the biggest benefit to franchise ownership? 
Being able to bounce ideas off other owners helps everyone create better solutions for our customers.
