Joel and Jessica Winters out of Castle Rock, CO are closing in on a year of owning their Kitchen Tune-Up franchise.

Joel and Jessica Winters have almost a year of franchise ownership under their belt after opening Kitchen Tune-Up Castle Rock, CO in July 2018. We recently caught up with them to learn more about how they came to be part of the Kitchen Tune-Up family!

What was your career before becoming a Tunie?
Joel- Prior to opening our franchise, I spent 20 years in sales and management roles in the mortgage and debt collection industries.
Jessica- I previously spent almost 20 years in sales and customer service in the insurance industry.

Why did you want to become a Kitchen Tune-Up franchise?
Typical remodels are stressful, time-consuming, and messy. We joined the Kitchen Tune-Up family because we believed that Kitchen Tune-Up offers a truly better way for customers to update their space. In just ten months, we’ve helped 50 customers see that making a change in their kitchen can be fun and easy.

What comes to mind as your most memorable kitchen update?
Our most memorable kitchen update was for a customer in Parker, CO. Right after purchasing their home we completed a Refacing Plus kitchen update, where we completely transformed their kitchen, including a new range hood, new granite counters, several custom cabinets, and of course all new doors and drawers. We subsequently won a National Project of the Month award and had the project results featured prominently in several local magazines. We have since completed 3 other projects for the same customer!

Any advice for someone thinking about making the leap and buying their own franchise?
For us, the process involved asking lots of questions, talking with other owners, financial analysis, as well as assessing our own talents and skills. Having not previously owned a business, this was a big decision for us, and we took our time to get comfortable. We have exceeded our own projections in many ways.

When you’re not working, what is your favorite hobby or pastime?
We love camping, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, off reading. Basically, being outside!

What’s something unique about your area?
Castle Rock is uniquely situated halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs and is a fast-growing community. Situated close to the Rocky Mountains, Castle Rock is home to the Elephant Rock Cycling Festival which draws more than 7,000 cyclists from around the country annually since 1987.

What was the biggest motivator to WHY you bought your own franchise?
After having helped build several companies for others, we simply couldn’t stand to keep building for someone else. It was time to do it for us.

What have you found to be the biggest benefit to franchise ownership?
Franchise ownership has many benefits over just starting a stand-alone business. The vendor relationships, the brand reputation, the operational know-how, and being able to leverage the collective experience of other owners really helped us get off the ground quickly.

What is your Mission Statement?
Our mission is to serve customers by “remodeling expectations” for what a kitchen or bath remodel should be. We aim to change the idea that remodels are messy, time-consuming, and stressful. We will execute this mission by upholding the Kitchen Tune-Up Customer Service Trustpoints with every customer on every job.

Why we love our work!
Our goal is to make kitchen updates hassle-free for homeowners in Castle Rock, Parker, and Aurora. We love showing our neighbors that making a change in their kitchen can be fun and easy. We can help them enjoy the experience every step of the way!
