Featured Franchise: Kitchen Tune-Up Colorado Springs, CO
Bruce and Lori Morgan have been successfully running Kitchen Tune-Up Colorado Springs, CO for 25 years and have turned it into a family affair, by having their son, Chad, join the team. We recently interviewed them and had them think way back to the beginning of when they started their franchise.
What was your career before becoming a Tunie?
Bruce was a Vice President of Finance for a reality workout group of a bank. His background helped in understanding how to make a profit and budgeting. Lori had her own small business in woodworking crafts and had a background in accounting. This helped in knowing how to run the books and work with customers. Chad had operations management experience in both hospitality and retail, which has brought a great new perspective built from established corporations to help us grow our business.
What is your favorite part of owning your franchise?
We love being our own bosses, working together, and setting our own schedules. We bought a Kitchen Tune-Up franchise because we realized everyone has wood in their home or business and would want it to look good, especially in the kitchen since it is the heart of the home! What stood out to us about Kitchen Tune-Up the most was that the home office was really a home office. The people were kind, down to earth, and really had a desire to help us succeed. After 25 years we still feel this way and love working with them.
What comes to mind as your most memorable kitchen update?
Our most memorable kitchen was for a family whose home had been through a wildfire. It had not been destroyed but had a lot of damage. The kitchen was a typical 1990’s golden oak and looked very tired. We were able to reface the kitchen, bar, and bookcases. The change was so dramatic that it won kitchen of the year from the other owners. The best part though was seeing the change for the owners. It helped them love being in their home again. Whenever we see each other they still comment on what a difference it made for them even though it was done several years ago!
Any advice for someone thinking about making the leap and buying their own franchise?
Jump in with both feet! Follow the program, listen to those who have been through it already. Stay organized and keep balance in your life.
What was the biggest motivator to WHY you bought your own franchise?
We had been laid off twice and wanted to be in more control of our income. The franchise was a great model for us to jump into a new career. With most of the legwork done, we were able to hit the ground running and have a support system with us every step of the way.
What have you found to be the biggest benefit to franchise ownership?
Lifestyle. We are able to set our own schedule to work around our lives not live our lives around work. We also make a great living.
What local affiliations are you a part of?
We have been an Accredited Business of the Southern Colorado Better Business Bureau since January 1996. We have the highest rating awarded by the BBB of an A. We are also part of the Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber and BYU’s Management Society.
